Breast augmentation involves placing silicone or saline implants beneath the breast tissue or chest muscle to enhance breast size and shape.Modern implants come in a wide range of sizes, profiles, and materials, including smooth round silicone gel implants, structured saline implants, and the Motiva line of advanced silicone implants.
The choice of implant type, size, profile, incision location, and pocket position is highly individualized and depends on your anatomy, tissue characteristics, and aesthetic goals. Dr. Carboy uses a thoughtful, measurement-based planning process to help you choose an implant and approach that produces a result you will be happy with for years to come.
Good candidates are healthy adult women who are unhappy with their current breast size, have lost volume after pregnancy or weight loss, have asymmetry between the breasts, or want a more proportionate balance with the rest of their figure. Patients should be at a stable weight, have realistic expectations, and ideally be done with childbearing, although augmentation does not preclude future pregnancy. Non-smokers heal best.
Patients in Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Sunriver, Prineville, and across the Pacific Northwest pursue breast augmentation for many reasons. Some have always felt that their natural breast size did not fit their proportions. Others want to restore volume lost after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Many of our active Central Oregon patients also want to be sure that their result allows them to continue running, climbing, skiing, and enjoying the outdoor lifestyle that defines this region. Dr. Carboy emphasizes implant choices and surgical techniques that support an active lifestyle.
Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Surgery typically takes about an hour. Most patients return home the same day with a supportive surgical bra and prescribed medications. Soreness peaks during the first three days and improves quickly after that. Most patients return to desk work within five to seven days and resume light exercise at three to four weeks. Strenuous chest exercise and heavy lifting are typically restricted for six weeks. Final settling and softening of the implants continue over three to six months.
